Sea Jammer  November 7, 2022
Make no mistake, Washington's Commanders presented all sorts of problems for our offense that goes well beyond their pass rushing prowess.
There was an alarming number of drops combined with bang-bang pass break-ups combined with some very concerning issues.

For instance, there was no attempt by Washington's defenders, throughout the day, to even attempt to turn & look back to make a play on the ball.  They played the receiver to break-up the play, never once looking back.  In years past, any contact from this stance, prior to the ball making contact with the receiver, would result in defensive pass interference ... but no more.  Just lay your body into the receivers "Catch-Frame" & get ready to punch anything that gets near that frame.  As long as you don't shield the receivers eyes ... it's not "FACE GUARDING", unless you're wearing purple.  Was this a "Home-Field-No-Call" situation or is this a new way of playing that falls under the radar.  Sometimes arm-bars count ... and sometimes they don't.  Man this is confusing.

What is clear was that separation, except in a few instances, did not occur which lead to the question, "Why?"  The answer that came back was Alexander Mattison.  Although Alex did come into the game in the 2nd quarter, he soon disappeared resulting in all those following bang-bang break-ups.  It is without question that Alex & Dalvin have two completely different running styles but what was clearly missing was the question, "What were you willing to give up to achieve a different result?"  Alex tends to run through walls, turn it back up the field & punish defenses, where line backers nor any other part of the defense, cannot ignore him.  In other words, that fraction of the second in separation that was missing in regard to receiver separation, to secure all those catches, were directly dependent upon the deployment of Alexander.  The choice became, accept the bang-bang breakout incompletion or hand it off to Alexander regardless of the result.  He's a nasty stick of fire that you might be able to catch without mishap, or ...  The mistake made in not deploying Alexander cost the offense dearly.

In the upcoming stretch of games, you will not be able to sustain the offense accepting all those incompletions.  Investing early, and fairly often will pay substantial dividends.  How often was it 3rd & 7 yards to gain?  Why was that?  Why are we listening to all those idiots that state that this or that team should throw the ball more?  To be direct, I'd rather have Kirk Cousins standing upright.

How many times did you see Washington's tackles take that inside rush, countering Bradbury decision either slide right or left.  It was an unmerciful attack on our guards.  When both guards are getting shredded like they were on the same day, it became a clear & concise message that they weren't at fault.  We refused to recognize their defensive plan of action that would have crumbled under Alexander Mattison's deployment.  In chess, when you move a piece to strengthen one square, you weaken another (the square you vacated).  Washington opened an opportunity and we ignored it.

Dalvin Cook is the very definition of finesse where he is better deployed in the 3rd & 4th quarters when legs have been tested & muscles have been rocked.  Mattison is something very very different designed for a very different purpose.  Do not ignore his impact to counter their defensive game plan.

Not to worry as the NFL is a copy cat league.  Ignore Mattison & you do so at your own peril.

Go ahead and look back when the defense ... any defense ... looked absolutely perplexed.  Did it follow bang-bang pass breakups, dropped balls, etc. or did it have something to do with the deployment of Alexander Mattison ... regardless of the result.  Could the answer lie within some sort of circuit overload?

Sea all you knuckleheads in Buffalo dealing with Buffalo's Mafia.  That's right ... Sea!  Remember lake Erie & Lake Ontario contain a huge amount of heat energy this time of year from all that summer sun, so even if it's 30 degree Fahrenheit air temperature, the Sea is still like bathwater (See lake effect snow).  Buffalo finds itself direct trapped between these power house heat sinks.  This windjammer knows because of crew-racing in the fall series.  November isn't February.  Practice with either wet balls or bricks until your arms fall off.  It's going to be epic.
