Additional Minnesota Viking Commentary

Anger Management -
At the end of the 2015 season, I was so upset that I wanted our place kicker released immediately.  Why?  Because no sane team would ever stand for, nor accept, substandard play at that level.  After that kick, I'm certain that he wouldn't be either a Patriot or a Dallas Cowboy but instead we were swayed by a group of people that believed that he instead needed to be coddled instead of recognizing the year long sacrifices of the other 52 men (& others) on our active roster.  How long did that last?

Today, I'm so upset with Adrian Peterson that to prove him out ... I'd cut him immediately from the squad ... right after Sunday's game.  You might ask why?  It would be to prove out something immediately.  Since we just activated him, he'd be eligible to play for any team in the playoff chase where anyone that would be stupid enough to pick him off for their playoff push would get exactly what they'd deserve.  Sure Adrian Peterson might win that elusive Super Bowl trophy & then again, Adrian Peterson just might find a way to fumble away either the Patriots or Dallas chances at that hardware in a crucial moment.

I'll never forget the commercial featuring some women in the Viking front office answering the phone stating that, "Joey Browner's services were no longer required".  Dennis Green was in and all of our aging Super Stars were chucked to the pavement.  I'd admit, at first cutting Joey Browner had sadden me deeply, but there was an answer that was coming ... that was way overdue.

As for Sharrif Floyd, I'd pick up his 5th year option ... whatever it costs ... then I'd tell him that he would never play another down for this Vikings franchise ever again.  You don't want to be here so we are going to make is so.  Then I'd make it clear that Floyd would be sold to the highest bidder in terms of draft picks only.  Then I'd start with the New England Patriots and see what they might offer for him knowing that we'd entertain just about any offer & then move onto the next as quickly as  possible.  It's clear that we want the world to know that Sharrif Floyd's has incredible talent that we've just not been able to take advantage of where we need to move on.

As for Matt Kalil, Andre Smith, Jake Long & Mike Harris, thank you for your services but we've had to move on.  This is not a reflection of your ability to make it in this league as much as we cannot afford to invest one more minute of our resources in you.

T. J. Clemmings ... gone ... although adequate with flashes, he cannot be counted on where he will destroy both you & your most valuable assets at the most crucial moment (just see 3rd down conversions).   When the chips are down ... your history.  Brandon Fusco may well be worth keeping on the roster in the role dominated by Joe Berger with the understanding that a new starting right guard must also be found.  Berger must be weeded out as his age is a liability.  Kerin, Sirles & Easton are the core that must be built & improved upon.

As for Adam Theilen, he should be called into Rick Spielman's office immediately with the caveat that he deserves to have his contract extended on favorable terms in relation to his efforts.   Every effort should be made to bring Cordarrel Paterson back as both as maybe the best outstanding special teams player in the league with the promise to continue to nurture his wide receiver abilities.  He may not have received his 5th year receiver money but he is very much wanted back in Minnesota.

Shaun Hill ... gone.  We've got to develop Minnesota Vikings prospects.  It's time to move on.  Chad Greenway was at times brilliant ... without doubt due to his overall experience ... but this comes with the caveat that he's also a liability being more than a step slow in coverage.  If you can't cover this leagues tight ends, it is time to find your replacement.   Would you rather have Brian Robison for what may be his swan song year or Greenway because you can't have both.

Sam Bradford is not worth 16 million dollars or anywhere near that figure.  It doesn't matter whether we have a starting quarterback or not.  We don't pay someone that kind of money to lose our games.  Does the cloud that cast the pawl over everything ... does it follow Sam Bradford everywhere he goes?  Do the decisions that follow influence the events that precede it?  Some say that the flow of the ying & yang have "extending-barbs" that both precede and follow it.  Some call it a curse ... like 50 years in Detroit.  Here's the key question.  If there is zero percent chance that Sam Bradford will be apart of the 2018 Vikings squad then the only difference in getting rid of him is a wasted year of quarterback development & 16 million dollars in cap money that can be used on solidifying the roster.  You cannot recoup draft picks that were traded for him.

The number of needs are great where no one want to admit a rebuilding program however every team has to fix it's weaknesses.  There is an opportunity of dumping a great deal of cap space which as the Raider's 55 million in cap space, combined with solid draft picks, turned into a playoff caliber team.  It's a shame the league allowed David Carr to be shredded.  There are solid values out there where the next Linval Joseph just might be out there.
